More desperate than most these days is Westview, North Carolina Police Chief David Carlisle. He committed murder to cover up his guilt of the notorious stink bomb attack which left six, including the mayor, dead; and, of course, someone discovers the truth. Will David resort to homicide again?
In New York City, Matt Andrews has tracked down his supposedly dead wife Joanna–but since she thinks he wants to kill her, she is not at all pleased.
Back in Westview, Sterling Smullen learns–the hard way–that the TV-movie supposedly being made about his life is nothing but an elaborate plot to kill him hatched by the not-so-dead-after-all Bo Novak.
Elsewhere, the plan to save Len Castleberry from the electric chair hits a major snag. Randy Reinisch, still grieving for the “dead” Joanna and having broken off his relationship with Debbie Sherman, becomes embroiled in yet another Westview mystery (or two). Engaged at last, Candy Howe and Hudson Winnock move ahead with their wedding plans. And, finally, to the delight of the doctors at Friendship Hospital, someone–once again–ends up in a coma.
